Jekaterina Macuka is a qualified lawyer, with master's degree in Law. She has been working in public sector as well in the Ministry of Justice of Latvia since 2004. She has extensive knowledges of personal data protection and knowledges of the GDPR, as she was responsible for state policy and legal regulation elaboration in personal data protection field from 2009. During the Latvian Presidency in the Council of the European Union in 2015 Jekaterina Macuka was the chair person of the EU Council working party "Data protection and information exchange working party" (DAPIX). Under her leadership GDPR discussions on EU Council level was finished and Justice and Home Affairs Council approved the compromise text of the GDPR as the General Approach.
